Welcome to the Show

Welcome to my DA page. My name is Mark Farrier. I'm a writer and a musician. I try to draw.. sometimes.. and fail :D Currently recording a solo LP. A style i define as "an erotic blend of circus metal, straightjacket jazz, and psychedelic swing". Project is an offshoot from a band i recently quit called CARNEVIL (see above pic).

Nick Drake - The Things Behind The Sun

"Please beware of them that stare
They'll only smile to see you while
Your time away
And once you've seen what they have been
To win the earth just won't seem worth
Your night or your day
Who'll hear what I say.
Look around you find the ground
Is not so far from where you are
Don´t too wise
For down below they never grow
They're always tired and charms are hired
From out of their eyes
Never surprise.

Take your time and you'll be fine
And say a prayer for people there
Who live on the floor
And if you see what's meant to be
Don't name the day or try to say
It happened before.

Don't be shy you learn to fly
And see the sun when day is done
If only you see
Just what you are beneath a star
That came to stay one rainy day
In autumn for free
Yes, be what you'll be.
Please beware of them that stare
They'll only smile to see you while
Your time away
And once you've seen what they have been
To win the earth just won't seem worth
Your night or your day
Who'll hear what I say.

Open up the broken cup
Let goodly sin and sunshine in
Yes that's today.
And open wide the hymns you hide
You find reknown while people frown
At things that you say
But say what you'll say
About the farmers and the fun
And the things behind the sun
And the people round your head
Who say everything's been said
And the movement in your brain
Sends you out into the rain."

The Colour of Empty Space

Eventful Friday.

Had my second full day in the studio working on Mr. Mistoffelees and a Tail of Two Lobotomies. My second-uncle is officially hating on me for following The End with something just as long and even more nightmarishly complex, but all nine lives must be told! Anyway, i've more or less completed guitar, bass, and drum arrangements, though some tweaking and adding is necessary. Vocals + soloing to be added. I'm liking the way it's coming along. It's definitely a learning experience trying to capture the complete sound i'm going for, and I think this is the perfect song to experiment with how exactly i'm going to achieve that.

Anyway, after emerging from the dark studio into what can only be describe as an unholy amount of light to my unprepared eyes.. i made the long drive home and by the time i got back all i wanted to do was just eat something and collapse on my bed. But it looked like my day wasn't over. Seconds after i got in the door i got a call from my very distressed friend, and my plans of food and sleepytime got put on hold to save a sparrow from being the victim of cat-related death. Unfortunately the only working vet at the time was tending to a cat that had been run over =/ but she recommended this "bird lady". So we drove out to this bird lady, and got greeted by a nice looking old lady and her AWESOME pet magpie, stating not to get anywhere near it as it would fuck my leg up somewhat bad. Halfway there we there was a scare that the sparrow had died =/ but it turned out to be okay. Anyway... this lady really was a bird lady.. there were birds literally EVERYWHERE. She was even wearing a bird t-shirt and i'm sure i spotted a few bird paintings and literature around the place. She was like the crazy cat lady's cousin, the crazy bird lady. Thankfully she was able to treat the sparrow's wounds and give it some anaesthetic and painkillers etc and said it would be okay, which was an incredible relief to us. Especially since i failed to save that duck that got run over a few months ago at the dairy down the road from mine :( at least this sparrow got another shot at life :)

Haha, fair enough, I guess you have a point. No hurry, no worries.

Oh and yeah, I really would hate to be the one that causes you to burn your chocolate chip cross buns :)
